You should:

• List any rotation to be counted as a regional/rural placement in this section. Note only regional/rural placements in the past five (5) years will count

Please note that in 2024 NZAGS is collecting five (5) surgical/medical consultant referee reports, three (3) Allied Health Professsionals referee reports of which one must be a nurse and two (2) SMO doctors from non-surgical specialties referee reports

You must:

• List five (5) referees who are surgical/medical consultants  
• Ensure your surgical/medical referees supervised you in a clinical setting sufficiently to comment
• Ensure your surgical/medical referees are from the past two years prior to closing date*
• List three (3) referees who are allied health professionals of which one must be a charge nurse
• Ensure your allied health professional referees are from the past two years prior to closing date*
• List two (2) referees who are SMO doctors from non surgical specailties
• Ensure your referees who are SMO doctors from non surgical specailties are from the past two years prior to closing date*
• Seek prior permission and establish availability from all referees 

In addition for 2024

• List all supervising consultants worked with for more than 3 months over the previous 2 years. You do not have to get permission from this group.

Do not list:

• more than three (3) referees from any one rotation

*Applicants who have been undertaking a period of full-time study in a medically related discipline within the previous two years may extend that period by the period of the full-time study, up to a maximum of four (4) years.

You should:

• Include work which is published or accepted for publishing, and only full articles from refereed journals or books.  Up to six (6) articles can be listed.
• List authors in the order they appear in the publication
• Include works relevant to surgery from the past five (5) years only 

Do not:

• Include unaccepted submitted work
• Include abstracts, letters or media releases

Acceptable documentary evidence includes:

• First page of article clearly showing full reference
• Letter of acceptance for unpublished work

You should:

• Include only presentations given personally, and those given at meetings or conferences subject to abstract selection in the past five(5) years. (Up to 6 (six) instances can be listed).
• Include only presentations relevant to surgery

Do not include

• presentations of the same content given more than once, or those of your work given by other speakers

Acceptable documentary evidence includes:

• Appropriate page of meeting programme
• Letter of acceptance from meeting convenor identifying you as speaker
• Abstracts selected to be presented at the NZAGS conference, to be held on 6 and 7 April 2024, will be accepted. Attach a copy of your acceptance letter. 

You should:

• Include involvement in continued teaching and /or administration of teaching in the medical field
• Include teaching that occurred for six (6) continuous months or longer at time of application
• Include only teaching undertaken in the last three (3) years. Up to six (6) instances can be listed.

Acceptable documentary evidence includes:

• Letter of Appreciation or Letter of Involvement from relevant organisation
• Teaching roster

You should:

• Include only completed courses and workshops (Up to ten (10) instances can be listed)

• Refer to 2024 Selection Regulations

Do not include: 

• any course booked and/or paid for but not yet completed

• RACS skills courses such as CLEAR, ASSET etc.

Acceptable documentary evidence includes:

• Certificate or Letter of Completion  

Unacceptable documentary evidence:  

• Tax invoices or receipts

You should:

• Include any awards, prizes or leadership roles (up to six (6) instances can be listed)
• Leadership achievements must be from within the past ten (10) years
• Upload your Te Ao Maori Personal statement 

Do not:include

• Honors, Deans Honor Roll, Distinctions, letters of appreciation or scholarships

Acceptable documentary evidence includes:

• Certificate or Letter from awarding body

Unacceptable documentary evidence:  

• Photos, or documents prepared by you

You should:

• List any RACS examinations you have completed at the time of application

Do not: include

• RACS courses such as ASSET (please include RACS courses under Professional Development)

Acceptable documentary evidence includes:

• RACS transcript/letter
